What Is Trulicity®?

Trulicity® contains dulaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes in adults. It supports blood glucose regulation and is commonly prescribed in combination with lifestyle measures. Clinical guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and regulatory oversight from the MHRA recognise GLP-1 receptor agonists as important therapeutic options in appropriate patients.

In addition to glycaemic control, dulaglutide has demonstrated cardiovascular benefit in individuals with established cardiovascular disease or multiple risk factors.

How Trulicity® Works

Dulaglutide mimics the action of the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone. It stimulates insulin secretion when blood glucose levels are elevated, suppresses glucagon release, and slows gastric emptying. These combined mechanisms help reduce postprandial glucose spikes and maintain more stable blood sugar levels throughout the week.

By improving glycaemic stability, Trulicity® may also contribute to modest weight reduction in some individuals, although it is not licensed solely as a weight-loss medicine.

Approved Indications

  • Improvement of blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
  • Reduction of major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease or multiple risk factors.
